Through a letter, FIFA advises the Spanish Federation that the alleged interference by the Villar case may lead to its suspension from all competitions.

The presence of the Spanish team in the next international competitions, including the 2018 World Cup in Russia, is in danger, according to a letter sent by FIFA to the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), as published by Cadena Ser.

The letter sent by the governing body of international football contains this severe warning to the Spanish Federation, interpreting as governmental interference the actions taken by the Spanish Executive in the judicial investigation involving Ángel María Villar, former president of the RFEF, in a plot of corruption and exchange of favors.

Villar, after the outbreak of the scandal, resigned from his international responsibilities, but continued as president of the RFEF, a position he was suspended on July 25 by the Spanish Sports Council.

The actions carried out by the Spanish authorities would be doomed to throw to Villar of the presidency of the organism that directs the Spanish soccer after winning the past elections of the month of May, in what was going to be its eighth mandate. Specifically, what the Superior Council of Sports of Spain intended was the repetition of those elections.

Among the rules of FIFA is the strict prohibition of interference by third parties in the operation of national federations, which are considered fully autonomous.

Therefore, FIFA's threat includes suspension as an associate member of the federation, which will de facto exclude the Spanish team from participation in any international competition, including the upcoming 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The Spanish Prime Minister, Mariano Rajoy, in conversation with the current president of the Spanish Federation, Juan Luis Larrea, collected by Eurosport, has assured that he does not contemplate the scenario foreseen in the FIFA missive: "Spain will go to the World Cup and is going to win".
